The County Government of Nakuru takes a care free attitude when it comes to fighting drugs, especially alcohol. Nakuru is one of the few counties where illicit brews are sold freely, and pubs ignore all the rules on the book.
Under Governor Lee Kinyanjui, the county has weakened the liquor control and licensing boards it appointed by failing to pay their allowances since the boards were constituted. This means that the boards can no longer meet to review petitions or withdrawal licenses to those who flout the rules. The resultant effect is a booming illegal liquor trade that is eating into the fibre of the society.
